On behalf of the Malaysian Orthopaedic Association (MOA), it is my pleasure to invite you to the 48th MOA Annual Scientific Meeting (MOA ASM) which will be held in the island city state of Penang from the 10th to 12th May 2018.

The annual scientific meeting of MOA has always been a highlight meeting of the year. This meeting has grown in numbers in tandem with the growth of our association and orthopaedics in Malaysia. MOA organises more than just the annual MOA ASM as part of our association's role is to ensure that there are plenty of opportunities for our members to continue their professional developments. Thus, I encourage everyone of our annual members and fellow orthopaedic surgeons who have yet signed up as members, to join MOA and stay updated and contribute to the developments of our profession in this country.

In MOA ASM 2018, we are bringing you a very scientific focused theme of "Bugs, Bones and Surgeons' Moans". Our Organising Chairman and Scientific Chairman's goal is to bring urgent attention to an issue which bugs all of us. There has been much new informations, strategies of treatment and new drugs and medical devices introduced in past few years. Latest technologies such as nano-technology to combat the bugs, new drug deliveries system and current systematic approaches by prominent authorities in this field will be discussed. Join us at this meeting to refresh your knowledge and pick up new arsenal to fight against bugs in your daily practice. By better managing infection in our hospitals, we will help ensure better patient care, reduce the readmissions of secondary infections and significantly save on financial and psychosocial costs.

For our younger fraternity members and those who have strong interest in research, keep the abstract submissions coming in. In 47th MOA ASM 2017, we received a record high number of 464 abstracts submitted; evidence that the research culture in Malaysia orthopaedic has reach an outstanding level. Our Scientific Committee has indeed raised the standards of accepted abstracts to be presented as either free paper oral or poster presentation formats. I encourage you to submit early and submit your best work. "Celebrate what you have accomplished but raise the bar each time you succeed."

In the near future, all medical officers and specialists will have to collect CPD points as part of the requirements for us to renew our annual practicing license and specialist registrations. The minimum number of CPD points is 20 points and our MOA ASM 2018 will be structured to ensure that our MOA members and all participants will be able to collect their full 20 CPD points from this meeting.

The 48th MOA ASM 2018 would be a comprehensive and informative meeting under the leadership of the Organising Chairman, Prof Dr Azhar Mahmood Merican and Scientific Chairman, Assoc Prof Dr Tengku Muzaffar Tengku Mohamed Shihabudin and their capable scientific committee.

The conference venue will be held in the Pearl of The Orient, Penang. During your free time, do indulge in our favourite Malaysian past time of food and shopping in Penang.

I look forward to seeing all of you in May 2018!

Prof Dr Wan Faisham Nu'man Wan Ismail
Malaysian Orthopaedic Association
